From Complexity to Clarity: Communicating Sustainability in a Credible and Impactful Way

The lecture will focus on sustainable development and effective sustainability communication. In the introductory part, participants will become familiar with key concepts, including the Sustainable Development Goals, major environmental and social challenges, and the role of sustainability in academic, organisational, and societal contexts, with particular attention to evidence-based approaches and current policy frameworks.
The second part will be practical and workshop-based. Participants will work on how to communicate topics related to sustainable development clearly, responsibly, and engagingly to different audiences. Particular emphasis will be placed on the choice of language, avoiding oversimplification and greenwashing, and translating complex sustainability issues into clear, credible, and actionable messages supported by data and real-world examples.

Short biography

Dr Anna Maria Kamińska is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Management, Wrocław University of Science and Technology. Her academic and professional work focuses on innovation management, sustainable development, and project management, with a strong emphasis on bridging academia and industry. She is actively involved in international initiatives, including Erasmus+ and Unite! alliance projects, where she contributes to the development of innovative educational formats such as virtual exchange and micro-credentials. She has experience in designing and implementing interdisciplinary courses related to green innovation, digital transformation, and sustainable entrepreneurship. In parallel to her academic career, she has over 10 years of experience as a Business Process Manager in a small manufacturing company in the steel structures sector, where she supports managerial decision-making, process optimization, and quality-oriented improvements. Her work integrates research, teaching, and practical implementation, with a focus on life cycle thinking, ESG, and the role of innovation in the green transition.

Research area

In her academic work, Dr Anna Maria Kamińska focuses on innovation management, sustainable innovation, and the processes supporting the green transition of organisations. Her research addresses, among other areas, ESG practices, project management, and organisational processes, as well as the role of quality management and process optimisation in improving organisational performance. She is also engaged in the development of innovative education models, including micro-credentials and virtual exchange (VE/COIL), exploring how international collaboration and flexible learning pathways can enhance competencies for sustainable development. Her work further incorporates life cycle thinking and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), with particular attention to eco-design and sustainability-oriented decision-making. In this way, she integrates perspectives from management, sustainability, and education, demonstrating how innovation, processes, and learning can support the responsible and effective transformation of organisations.

Short biography

Dr Katarzyna Walecka-Jankowska is a researcher and academic teacher, an accessibility leader, and a trainer at the Centre for Teaching and Learning Excellence at Wrocław University of Science and Technology, as well as a supervisor who facilitates supervision processes for academic teachers across all faculties. In her work, she combines expertise in sustainable development with a practical approach to adult learning, facilitation, and the design of engaging educational experiences. She supports participants in understanding environmental and social challenges and in translating sustainability concepts into concrete actions, decisions, and organisational practices. As a workshop facilitator, she draws on active learning methods, dialogue, and reflection, enabling participants not only to acquire knowledge but also to develop the competences needed for responsible action in a changing world. Her educational approach combines a strategic perspective with practical tools that can be applied in academic, professional, and project-based contexts.

Research area

In her academic work, Dr Eng. Katarzyna Walecka-Jankowska focuses on knowledge management, innovation, sustainable development, and sustainable innovation. Her research addresses, among other areas, environmental innovation, ESG practices in enterprises, and the role of organisational learning in achieving business sustainability objectives.
