Apr. 27, 2026 New Disaster Science Course Established in the Department of Frontier Sciences for Advanced Environment
- News
On April 1, 2026, a Disaster Science Course was newly established in the Department of Frontier Sciences for Advanced Environment of the Graduate School of Environmental Studies.
As demonstrated by the increasing severity of wind and flood disasters associated with recent climate change,
addressing the sustainability of human society requires an integrated approach to environmental issues and disaster prevention/mitigation,
as well as the construction of resilient local communities.
This course aims to lead international disaster risk reduction strategy initiatives by fostering an understanding of the fundamental principles of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction,
which is based on Japan's development experience in areas such as "pre-disaster investment" and "build back better."
Students will acquire specialized knowledge in disaster science while deepening their practical understanding of how to optimize disaster risk reduction investments across society.
Student recruitment is scheduled to begin in October of this year.
