Summer School

Overview

Founded in 2020, The Graduate School of Environmental Studies (GSES) Summer School is a collaborative effort by Tohoku University faculty members and affiliates to showcase ongoing research in the GSES and serve as a networking platform for researchers. The core concept of the summer school is to host an engaging week of international lectures, through which faculty and students discuss future avenues of collaboration and academic exchanges. Each year, we intend to focus on key themes that are central to our graduate school such as technological development, geography, societal resilience, SDGs, circular economies, and cross-cultural initiatives.

Our student body draws from a diverse population of graduate students, many of whom are members of The International Environmental Security Leadership Program (IESLP) and The International Joint Graduate Program in Resilience and Safety Studies (GP-RSS). The Summer School offers opportunities in student leadership through organization and coordination of events, but also a chance to meet and get to know our collaborators who are not necessarily working in Japan.

For further information on how you can be involved in our Summer School, either as an instructor or a student leader, please have a look at our archives and FAQs, and reach out to us via our admissions and registration pages. Our Summer School dates in September will be announced in April of each year.
