Job Description

The Urban Decarbonization Lab, Graduate School of Environmental Studies, Tohoku University, Japan has a job opening for a post-doctoral researcher (2 years with possibility of extension) related to the economic-energy modeling for decentralized energy system (e.g., rooftop PV, EV, and hydrogen system) for urban decarbonization.

To accelerate energy transition in cities, rooftop PV integrated with electric vehicles (EVs) as storage has a large potential for effective and affordable deep decarbonization. However, to realize a carbon-neutral society, a hydrogen system utilizing surplus PV power generation could be necessary. This research aims to elucidate the economic and social constraints for the integrated PV + EV + hydrogen system, while considering power grid constraints. Energy Exemplar's PLEXOS software are expected to be used for the research.
